Disney and Halloween have always been deeply intertwined for me, bringing back fond memories of childhood when I eagerly anticipated the Halloween-themed shows and movies on Disney Channel. The Halloweentown franchise and the original Hocus Pocus were staples during the spooky season. These movies had just the right mix of goofiness, a dash of darkness, and, of course, plenty of witches—elements that still draw me in today. So naturally, when Marvel announced the Agatha All Along series on Disney+, I couldn’t wait to dive in, and I’m pleased to say that it has lived up to my expectations.
Set in the aftermath of WandaVision, Agatha All Along follows the story of Agatha Harkness, now powerless and desperate to regain her magical abilities. The series does a fantastic job of balancing humour with a darker tone, much like the Halloween classics I grew up loving. By the end of the initial two episodes, it’s clear that this show isn’t just another cog in the vast Marvel machine; it has its own unique flavour, reminiscent of the old Disney Halloween specials that made October such a magical month.
What really makes Agatha All Along shine is its stellar cast. Kathryn Hahn as Agatha is just as captivating as she was in WandaVision, but this time she’s joined by an equally impressive lineup including Aubrey Plaza, Debra Jo Rupp, and Heartstopper fame Joe Locke. Each actor brings something special to the table. The show’s atmosphere, supported by a well-crafted set design and visual effects, adds to the overall experience, making it feel immersive and engaging.
Even if you’re not a die-hard Marvel fan or felt lost with all the multiverse complexities, Agatha All Along offers a refreshing break from that chaos. It stands on its own as an entertaining series, focused more on character-driven stories and less on tying into the larger MCU. For fans of Halloween and witchy vibes, this series feels like a return to the simpler, spooky joys that Disney has always excelled at delivering. My only gripe is that it wasn’t released closer to Halloween to fully capture that nostalgic, spooky vibe. However, with the final two episodes premiering just a day before Halloween, I suppose all is forgiven.
