Goosebumps: The Vanishing is the latest addition to the Goosebumps universe, and it’s yet another brilliant hit from Hulu. Following the success of the previous series, Hulu has perfected the formula for what makes a Goosebumps show truly special. Not only does this new series stay true to the essence of the beloved books, but it manages to take everything fans love and elevate it to new heights, creating a show that is even funnier, creepier, and more engaging than before.
The plot centers around a pair of twins who, while exploring the strange happenings in their town, uncover a gooey, unsettling secret that ties into their family’s past. The mix of mystery, horror, and humor is spot-on, maintaining the right balance that has made Goosebumps a nostalgic favorite for so many. Hulu’s commitment to capturing the spookiness and wit that made R.L. Stine’s stories so memorable is evident in every episode.
The show’s new adult character, played by David Schwimmer, steps in to fill the shoes of Justin Long from the previous series. Schwimmer, best known for his role as Ross in Friends, brings his signature comedic timing to the role, adding a perfect blend of humor and depth. The supporting cast is equally strong, and everyone delivers performances that keep the audience engaged and entertained.
What sets this iteration apart, aside from the stellar cast and script, is the pacing and format. Hulu made the wise choice of releasing all episodes at once, which allows for a more immersive experience. The story unfolds in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish, with each episode building on the last. This approach helps the narrative flow more naturally, allowing the suspense and intrigue to grow steadily throughout the series.
The writing has improved as well, with tighter storytelling that delivers more thrills and chills. The eerie, unsettling atmosphere that Goosebumps is known for is alive and well, with plenty of moments that will leave you second-guessing what’s real. The series also expertly uses the classic Goosebumps trope of ending on an eerie note, even when it seems like everything’s wrapped up. All in all, Goosebumps: The Vanishing is a fantastic new addition to the Goosebumps franchise. Hulu has managed to deliver two back-to-back hits that not only stay true to the heart of R.L. Stine’s work but also bring something fresh and exciting to the table. With a great cast, a strong story, and that signature Goosebumps creepiness, this series is a perfect blend of nostalgia and new thrills.
